I think my ammo concerns are over for a while.... I have no shelf space left to stack ammo on and over 7k rounds of handgun ammo on hand once more. Over half that in 9mm and 45 acp alone, and the rest in calibers including 32acp, 32 Long, 32 H&R mag, 380 acp, 9mm, 38 special, 357 mag, 40 S&W, 10mm, 41 mag, 44 special, 44 mag, 45 acp, 45 colt, and 454 Casull.

Ammo shortage? Walmart maybe, but not here. Very Happy
Now I just have to make time to get to the range and burn through some of this stuff in the next few months so I can have the brass to reload some more. Laughing

Sounds like you are good to go for a few months.

Congratulations!

Is there such a thing as "reloaders elbow" and have you been diagnosed with it yet? Mr. Green

No physical impairments yet, but there may be a compulsive disorder involved... Laughing

All kidding aside I actually find it relaxing to focus totally on something like this, and I've noticed that as things get more stressful at work, the more ammo that gets cranked out at home... I can tell from the shelf that work has been a little more hectic than usual lately. Cheaper and more acceptable than seeing a shrink. Razz

Nope, currently have 2 Lee Pro 1000's - one for small primers and one for large, a Lee Loadmaster and a small single stage. By having more than one press I can leave everything setup and crank 50-100 whenever the urge hits... just have to make sure of the powder drop is set correctly and start going. Total cost on all 4 presses was under $275. The Lee's are the hardest to get setup and running, but they'll do the job!

obsession - recurrent or persistent intrusive thoughts or impulses that cause marked anxiety; person realizes thoughts are a product of his or her own mind

compulsion - repetitive behavior that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession (essentially performed to prevent the anxiety caused by the obsession)

So, yes, philbo has a problem. Laughing

You whack-job. Wink

If WWIII ever comes, I'm gathering up you, Jon, and the Oxley brothers. I'd feel as safe in that crew as in my own mother's arms. Oh...and probably tnert as well. You know....for comic relief and someone to shoot the hostages.

Just started reloading... what are you using for the .380 loads? and just storing stuff in bulk cans? Wish I would have saved more ammo boxes sometimes.
Been using Unique for right now since it works in everything and is easy to find. Will probably switch to Clays for the .45 since it's "Very Clean" I hear.

Caught up working a new load for hunting at the moment and resizing loads to fire form in my contender7-30 waters wild cat.

I've used HP38/W231, Titegroup & Universal for the 380's. No real difference in any of the three for this caliber. Each burned clean and produced loads that worked well for the little 380's. Because of the case size and small window for loads, ones about as good as another I guess.

What bullet/charge weight are you using with the W231, Phil? I load 102 gr Remington Golden Sabers with 3.1 grs of W231 (IIRC) and get factory performance out of them.

On a different note, I just got one of the CAI Bulgarian AK 74's that shoot the 5.45x39 round. There's not a whole lot of ammo choices out there that I have found so I stocked up on "a few" rounds, just in case the price goes up or the supply dries up. It's steel cased Russian Surplus but at just under $0.13 cents a round ($119.99 + $18.50 shipping per 1,080 rnd can), I can live without reloading it. I believe, although I haven't mic'ed one, that they took a 7.62x39 case and necked it down. Very fast and flat shooting. There have been reports of keyholing but I haven't seen it.

380 loads with HP38/W231:

88 Speer JHP over 3.6 grains, OAL at .935 - hot little load
90 Sierra JHP over 3.3 grains, OAL at .950
95 FMJ over 3.3 grains, OAL at .970 - feels like factory
95 FMJ & LRN over 3.0 grains, OAL .970 - shoots like factory
