So Walmart wants to build a new Supercenter about 200 yards from my front door Evil or Very Mad. I really like the neighborhood the way it is now. Little traffic, relatively quiet, and very friendly. I also like my property value and a Walmart within spitting distance would kill the investment I made in my home. Looks like its time to get the stationary out and write my city officials.

I have two thoughts for you on the subject. First good luck with your letter writing. Second, it did work, somehow, in south College Station. The citizens, along with the city council, by blocking the sale of the land, were able to halt a Wal-Mart Neighboorhood Market. It can work. You may be right about the home value, however, my in-laws have a Wal-Mart literally with 25 yards of their back fence and to my knowledge, it has not hurt their property value at all.

I sincerely hope you can stop them from moving in, but Wal-Mart generally gets what they want when they want it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Is a Wal-Mart being there going to change the demographic of the folks that live in that area? I would seriously doubt it. It won't suddenly bring in a negative element as is normally the concern. Wal-Mart does a really good job in keeping their stores clean and well maintained.

Having lived in a small town when a new Wal-Mart was built, I've seen the resident concerns. The only one that came to fruition was the closing of the locally owned businesses that could not compete with Wal-Mart. As this would be in Houston, I don't think that is a concern since there are so many options.

I think it's far enough away to not impact your property value.

Just think, ammo, beef jerky and endless entertainment will be within walking distance.

If all the people didn't shop there it wouldn't come. Confused If you still ever shop at any Walmart you can't complain when one pops up in your backyard. I don't know you from Adam, and you may not shop there. Many people complain about them but they're there every Sunday getting groceries to save 10 cents.

Of course my wife thinks of me as a mad man while at the store I might need pickles and they're all the same price +/- a little I'll buy a "local" brand or Texas brand over the cheapest one. Needless to say she goes with out me more and more. Mr. Green

The two walmarts in my area have lowered the quality of the intersections they're on. It's like rotten food it draws all the roaches and crime in that specific area has gone up. Of course it would happen anywhere it's the only place for someone to go at 3:30 after the bar to get diapers and baby formula it's not going to draw the most responsible citizens.
